The public is constantly curious about the rich and famous and how they live their lives. Inquiring minds want to know, how much money they make and how they spend it. Do the celebrities have love interest or children and what are their dreams and aspirations for the future. We do not care what it is, but we want to know. The public wants to know where they spend their vacations and with whom they spend their vacations. We are even obsessed with their fashion, what types of jeans they wear and their shoe of choice. The entertainment public is constantly seeking out all these things and this will never stop.

Entertainment magazines, newspapers and television shows make their profits and gain fame, from being able to provide the public with these answers and the public cannot get enough. You have well known shows like Entertainment tonight, Extra, and TMZ and of course, Late night, all of these shows cater to the public’s need for celebrity gossip. Even the late night talk shows cater to the need for celebrity gossip, but they take it one-step further, they have celebrities visit their sets and talking one on one. People love to hear about their lives, from their own mouths, we find them fascinating, what they are wearing and what type of personalities they have.

Celebrity Gossip keeps the public entertained, but have you ever wondered how difficult it can be for the celebrity. Most celebrities are very understanding to the public and they try to keep us happy and entertained, but sometimes-even celebrities need their privacy. They take the time to film movies, record music and even make live appearances; just to please the public. However, the public wants more, we want to know what they are doing 24 hours 7 days a week and that can take its toll on anyone. It is a good thing to admire famous people, it allows you to live an exciting and wealthy life through their eyes, but when does the admiration become too much. This type of admiration ends up creating stalkers and paparazzi.

Enjoy all the Hollywood celebrity gossip and the latest Bollywood gossip, movies, music videos and even enjoy the magazines, but know when enough is enough and it is time to live your own lives. If you are so amazed by the life of the rich and famous, start to strive to be rich and famous. If you have a talent, start using your talent; if you are financially savvy, then use that to your own benefit and then you will not have to dream about what others have.

Celebrity gossip has become a cottage industry in the media, especially after the advent of internet. There are a number of dedicated websites, which provide content on the love life of celebrities, usually with enthralling text and revealing content. A mere Google search on Paris Hilton or Maria Sharappova would lead you to a galaxy of websites, some of which may contain even porn content. That these websites and tabloids in print media, most of which survive by telling the readers the love affairs and idiosyncrasies of various celebrities, generate a considerable amount of revenue tells us that there are people who crave for this kind of news. “Sex sells” is an old saying; but it seems to be relevant in all ages.

Generally, people are curious to know more and more details about celebrities. Since they always remain in public glare, it is inevitable that the life of a celebrity is almost like an open book. There is no room for secrecy, and people always read between the lines. As far as media is concerned, it is easier to get news and images about celebrities than getting hard facts. Moreover, one can reasonably assume that the news and image will get noticed. Sometimes the celebrities themselves cleverly plant certain news about themselves in the media, which they think would fetch them some benefits.

Some of the people, especially fans, who read this kind of stuff feel somewhat “empowered” after knowing a great deal about the private life of a celebrity. So celebrity gossip is definitely going to continue in the media, despite the criticism from some quarters. One cannot withdraw a selling commodity from the market.

The downsides of this kind of cheap or so called latest celebrity news or latest celebrity gossips are many. Most important thing is that it affects the basic right of privacy of a person. Not all celebrities enjoy the kind of public and media attention bestowed on them. Sometimes, the intensity of the media glare breaks down the celebrity. Also, there have been rumors published in the media, which caused divorce in many celebrity marriages and resulted in breaking up of many long-lasting relationships.

Media also turn a blind eye on ethics while publishing unverified reports about a celebrity because they know that most of the readers are interested in celebrity gossip however dirty it is.

Facing a celebrity gossip, no matter how big or small, is part of the glitz and glamour of being a celebrity. As celebrities are known personas, it is just normal for people to be interested in all the happenings of their lives, even the tiniest bit of issue regarding them.

Gossip may be thought of as merely news regarding popular personalities. However, there is a line that separates and borders the two. In several angles, celebrity gossip differs from news.

News is basically defined as anything about matters, events and happenings that are currently taking place. These are presented in papers, live television and radio broadcast, internet and the most basic of all, word of mouth.

Celebrity gossip comes in the same form – papers, broadcast, internet and word of mouth. However, gossips are more observable through the internet and word of mouth unlike straight news which is more apparent in live broadcast and newspapers. Also, gossips only talk about more particular issues as they are specific towards popular personalities only. News, on the other hand, cater on anything under the sun starting from current events, politics, environment, art, music, changes and developments on various fields such as technology, medicine, entertainment and  many more.

The most significant difference of the two falls on their contents: news is a factual report, while gossips are not. News, as far as responsible journalism is concerned, only contains verified information. In contrast, gossips may contain unverified reports and information. Oftentimes, reports and gossips on celebrities are simply hear-say and speculation.

Today, celebrity gossips are often brought to surface through the unstaged celebrity photographs taken by paparazzi. In most cases, rumors and speculation start from the malicious photographs posted over the internet. As the discussion grows, the talk spreads and evolves into what we know as rumor or gossip.
